Vesak Celebrations in Mumbai

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai together with the Department of Pali Studies of the University of Mumbai and the Ajanta Buddha Vihar Trust in Thane celebrated the 2559th Buddha Jayanti.

Indian Merchants’ Chamber Visit to Sri Lanka

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai had coordinated the visit of a 17 member trade delegation of Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Navi Mumbai chapter.

The delegation was led by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Jain, Chairman of the chamber.

Bucking stagnation elsewhere, the quiet rise of South Asia

South Asia has long been seen as an economic laggard, but that could start changing. At a time when growth is falling sharply in most other emerging nations, as commodity prices collapse and global trade slows, South Asia has proved relatively resilient. Together, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are now growing at an average annual pace of close to 6%, compared to 2% for the emerging world outside China.

Celebration of the 67th Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai celebrated the 67th Independence Day at the Mission premises on Wednesday, 04th February 2015 with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa and members of the Sri Lanka armed forces undergoing training in India.

The official ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Ms. Saroja Sirisena, Consul General, followed by the National Anthem and lighting of the Traditional Oil Lamp.

Students of the Shishuvan Collage select Sri Lanka for their school project

(12.05.2014) The Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai organized a Dhamma sermon on the 12th May at the Mission premises on the occasion of Vesak celebrations, with the participation of Mission staff and their family members, the Sri Lankan community and the members of the Indo- Sri Lanka Society.

Authentic Sri Lankan Cuisines in Mumbai

(07.03.2014) The Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai in collaboration with Hotel Trident, Mumbai and Hotel Mount Lavinia, of Sri Lanka organized a Sri Lankan Food Festival from 7th -14th March 2014 at the Frangipani restaurant, Hotel Trident, Mumbai with the objective of promoting tourism between India and Sri Lanka under the theme “Destination Promotion”. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines came on board with their sponsorship for this event.

Sapling of the Jaya Shri Maha Bodhi of Anuradhapura was planted at the sacred site of Global Vipassana Pagoda, Gorai in Mumbai

(02.03.2014) It was a historical event and a historical moment when a sapling of the Jaya Shri Maha Bodhi of Anuradhapura, the southern branch of the original Bodhi Tree under which the Bodhisatva Siddhārtha Gautama attained enlightenment, was planted in the forenoon of 2nd March 2014, at the sacred site of Global Vipassana Pagoda, Gorai in Mumbai, where the Buddha Relics are enshrined.

(07.02.2014) Out Bound Travel Mart (OTM) Travel trade fair was held in Mumbai from 7-9th February 2014. More than 825 exhibitors from 37 countries including Sri Lanka took part at the annual travel fair to show case country’s attractions to a large cross-section of travel trade industry and consumers, in all major outbound markets in India.

Buddha Statue from Sri Lanka to the Sarvodaya Maha Buddha Vihara in Mumbai

(28.07.2013) The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai donated a Buddha statue to the Sarvodaya Maha Buddha Vihara at the Chembur city in Mumbai on 28th August 2013. The statue was handed over to the Chief incumbent venerable Bhadant Rahul Bodhi Maha Thero, Founder President of the Bhikkhu Sangha’s United Buddhist Mission.
