Indian Merchants’ Chamber Promote Sri Lanka at the World Tourism Day in Mumbai

(27.09.2012) Sri Lanka Consulate General in partnership with Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) of India, the premier chamber of trade, commerce and industry in India jointly celebrated the World Tourism Day at the auditorium of the IM Chamber in Mumbai on 27th September 2012.  The Consul General of Sri Lanka, Ms. Upekkha Samaratunga was the Chief Guest at the event.

The event was one of the main Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions jointly conducted by the Mission in Mumbai to elevate and highlight the achievements of Sri Lanka Tourism industry in the post conflict scenario.

Sri Lanka Delegation of Processed Food & Beverages Visits Mumbai

(24.09.2012) Sri Lanka Consulate General in association with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB), organized a Technical Exposure and Business Development  programme  for 9 manufactures/exporters representing processed food & beverages sector , from 24-27th September 2012 in Mumbai parallel to the “Annapoorna World of Food India -2012”. This was the first technical exposure/ product development programme organized by the Mission in Mumbai for Sri Lanka’s processed food industry sector.

Buddha Statue from Sri Lanka to Maha Mahinda Temple in Ulhasnagar

 

(04.08.2012) Implementing one of the concepts of H.E. the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment took the initiative to offer 57 Buddha statue to Sri Lanka Foreign Missions abroad including Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai, to mark the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi. The dimension of the Buddha statue is 41/2 ft. height, 41/2 ft. width and 31/2 ft. thickness.

On 4th August 2012, a programme was held under the leadership of Venerable Dr Ananda Maha Thero in association with Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai to hand over the Buddha Statue to Mahinda Vihar Temple in Ulhasnagar, State of Maharashtra.

Business Interactive Session with Trade Bodies in Mumbai

(26.06.2012) The Trade Wing of the State Government of Maharashtra and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Mumbai Zonal Office, in association with Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai organized a business interactive session on 26 June at the Mumbai Zonal Office of the Addl Directorate General of Foreign Trade, to exchange information on further strengthening trade ties between Sri Lanka and the State of Maharashtra.

The Business interactive session was chaired by the Additional Director General of Foreign Trade Dr Kavita Gupta with the participation of representatives from the Trade and Industry Associations situated in the State of Maharashtra and the Officials of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai celebrates Vesak Festival

(04.05.2012) The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai celebrated Vesak festival on 4th May 2012 at the Mission premises.

The event was attended by the Mission staff, members of the Sri Lanka community resident in Mumbai and the personnel from the Sri Lanka forces, currently attending long term training programmes in Mumbai.

Ven. Dr Ananda Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Mahinda Vihar in Ulhasnagar conducted religious observances followed by a Dharma sermon.

The Consulate premises was colorfully decorated with Buddhist flags and illuminated with lights by the Mission staff.

 

Southern Gujarat Business Delegation Visits Expo 2012

(24.03.2012) A group of thirty five business delegates from Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCII) is visiting EXPO 2012, organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board from 28-31st March, 2012.

This is the first such delegation from Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry to visit Sri Lanka exclusively to explore business and investment opportunities.
The Southern Gujarat delegation is visiting the mega trade event in Sri Lanka with the objectives to forge business partnerships in textile & apparel, jewellery,   IT & BPO, Chemical & Agro Based industries and to identify potential suppliers to source apparel, giftware, toys, organic products, rubberized coir products, horticulture products etc; under ISFTA.

Mission is working with the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute and Mumbai based Think Tank, Economics & Political Weekly Research Foundation for collaboration to create new opportunities for the scholars, researchers, university students to expand their intellectual horizons and help the country for its development.

 

 

Sri Lanka's Participation at OTM Travel Fair in Mumbai

(18.02.2012) Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau for the first time took part in the OTM Travel Fair held in Mumbai from 17-19th February 2012.  Twenty stake holders from the travel trade participated at the three day event.

National Craft Council of Sri Lanka at the 6th International fashion Jewelry Fair in Mumbai

(11.02.2012) Sri Lanka for the first time took part in the International Fashion Jewelry Fair held in Mumbai from 10-13th February 2012. National Craft Council (NCC) of Sri Lanka together with Heshani Gems & Jewellery and K.K.Products, who are members of the NCC showcased fashion jewelry from Sri Lanka during the trade event.

Sri Lanka MICE promotion in Mumbai

(02.02.2012) Mission in Mumbai in association with Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and Sri Lanka Airlines organized a programme in Mumbai on 2nd February 2012 to promote Sri Lanka as a MICE destination. 10 leading travel companies from Sri Lanka participated at the programme held at Taj Landser in Bandra. The programme included a press conference followed by B2B meetings with the travel & tour companies in Mumbai.

   

EDB lead a delegtation from Health Food Industry sector to Mumbai on market exposure programme

(16. 11.2011) Ten member delegation organized by EDB from the Health Food Industry Sector visited Mumbai to attend the Annapurna Exhibition from 15-18th November 2011. The programme in Mumbai was organized by the Sri Lanka Consulate General which included a B2B session with the potential entrepreneurs and a study tour to leading stores to get an awareness related to pricing, packaging and labeling etc.  regulations in the Indian market.

Sri Lanka Country promotion at "Melthing" pot event in Mumbai

Mission participated at the country Promotion organized by the Diplomatic Corp in association with Hotel Oberoi in Mumbai which attended by over 500 invitees.  All in all over 25 Missions participated in the country promotion. During the event the Mission arranged to serve Sri Lankan cousins with Ceylon tea. The focus of the Sri Lanka stall was mainly on specialty teas and the island as an attractive holiday destination.

Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Celebration in Mumbai

(01.06.2011) The 2600th Anniversary of Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai.

To make the event, the staff of the Consulate General organized a “Dhamma sermon” followed by an ‘alms giving’ to the Buddhist monks of the Mahinda Vihar Temple in Ulhasnagar on 27th and 28th May 2011. Dhamma sermon was conducted by Ven.Dr Ananda Mahathero, Chief Incumbent of the Mahinda Vihar Temple in Ulhasnagar.
The Dhamma sermon organized at the Consulate was attended by te Sri Lankan’s living in Mumbai and the personnel from the Sri Lanka forces who currently in Mumbai attending long term programmes. In a brief address Rev. Ananda Thero noted the significance of the 2600th Anniversary of the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi on the Vesak Poya Day of this year.

The Consulate premises were colorfully decorated with Buddhist flags and illuminated with lights by the Mission staff.

According to Anada Thero, this is the first Dhamma sermon held at the Sri Lanka Consulate General to celebrate Vesak with the participation of Sri Lankans residing in Mumbai.
