Independence Day Celebrations at the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai

The 71st Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai with the participation of Sri Lankan Students in Pune, Sri Lanka Navy Trainees and the Sri Lankan Community in Mumbai on 4th February 2019. 

The Ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the singing of the national anthem. The ceremony continued with lighting of the traditional oil lamp, observing two minutes silence in honour of national heroes, war heroes and all victims of violence since Independence and Multi - religious observances to bless the country. 

Independence Day messages of HE the President followed by Hon. Prime Minister and the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were read in Sinhala and English. 

One of the highlights of the event was screening of a documentary on ‘Sri Lanka’s Journey to Independence’ and the ‘Sri Lankan Deshabhimanee Songs’ including ‘Nidahas Nivahal Lanka’ and ‘Lanka Lanka’ etc. which were enjoyed by the Sri Lankan community. 

The Ceremony concluded with serving homemade Sri Lankan traditional sweetmeats specially brought from Sri Lanka for the event.
